2nd Position: Vernacular Animal Seeds by Servaas Van Belle. Copyright: © Servaas Van Belle
Sequence Description: Livestock shelters in fields are so common in the Belgian landscape that nobody pays them a lot consideration, but the countryside offers a variety of architectural gems in a lot of designs, products and colors. For 5 yrs I criss-crossed Belgium to find just the appropriate type of shed, meticulously listing them so I was organized to photograph them in ‘perfect’ lighting ailments, by which I indicate dense fog. The fog was required to isolate and valorise the building – without having it, the lose is just an added in the landscape. As fog is unpredictable, I by no means knew how extensive it would past, and the project took several years to full. In a way, a photograph of a weather conditions-crushed drop is an allegory for our life: we all muddle on, we attempt our very best, we have the scars and we all die horizontally in the close. Humans harbour a deep longing for shelter, warmth and safety and that is maybe what would make these wondrous tiny structures so human.

Around the a long time I have revisited this location to photograph it again and once again. On my final stop by, in December 2021, my goal was to create a thoroughly distinctive sequence by capturing the Muralla Roja in the course of the day, at sunset, at evening and at dawn. I started off shooting extremely early in the early morning and ongoing perfectly into the night time. I then woke early to working experience an unforgettable dawn. Unfortunately, Bofill passed away just a several months soon after my go to, so I contemplate this sequence to be a own tribute to him and his legacy.
