The 16th annual edition of the iPhone Photography Awards (IPPAWARDS) recently revealed its winners. Selected from thousands of entries spanning 14 categories, including travel, lifestyle, architecture, nature, and animals, these talented photographers showcase the incredible potential of iPhone photography.

“Many of this year’s winning shots celebrate photography’s power to capture the power and the joy of what comes next, whether a frond preparing to unfurl, a morning mist hovering over a sleepy farm, or a flock of gulls heading to their next destination,” iPhone Photography Awards said.

This year’s Grand Prize went to Ivan Silva of Mexico, who was honoured with the ‘Photographer of the Year’ Award. His winning photograph, titled ‘Heroe’, captured the spirit of a young boy in a Lionel Messi soccer jersey feeling on top of the world — evoking a sense of shared triumph and joy. This was shot on an iPhone 12 Pro.

Founded in 2007, the IPPAWARDS is the first and longest-running iPhone photography competition which celebrates the power of mobile devices to capture incredible photos.

Along with the Grand Prize Winner, the competition also awarded First Place, Second Place and Third Place Winners.

The Second Place Prize was bagged by Sasa Borozan of Bosnia and Herzegovina for his image ‘Taming Waves’, showing a boy working alongside the ocean, shot on an iPhone 13 Pro.

Meanwhile, the Third Place Photographer of the Year Award was received by Derek Hager of the US for his captivating photo, ‘Tucson Morning’ — shot on an iPhone X from El Pesidio, Tuscon — showing us that great photography does not require the latest camera. The monochrome photo delivers a fantastic range of textures and shadows.
